July 10, 2017 6:30-9:00 pm at the Ministry Center
Present: Jim Vogel, Jay Justmann, Ron Takacs, Jason Seiberlich, Jim Kehoe, Steve Abramowski, Pastor Ben, Pastor Bill
Our meeting began with a devotion based on Psalm 116. Here, we were reminded how God delivers all of us from death through the gift of Baptism. We in turn, want to live our lives in thankfulness to God.
We welcomed Jim Kehoe to the Leadership Team, while at the same time we recognized Wes Andersen for his many years of service. Jim was installed during the July 16th worship service. We also reviewed our Organization Chart as well as the various roles and responsibilities of the members of the Leadership Team.
Victory Stories over the last month included: A successful 4th of July Parade, many new faces each week in the church, and stories of members inviting friends and neighbors to come to check out VOTL. Also, a member of the WELS Synod Office attended a service at VOTL and was blown away by our church and the people. Stated that he had never seen anything like it before! May the Lord be blessed.
New members since our last meeting are: Aria and Jared McCray, children of John and Anne McCray.
We have determined that we are going to finish the floor in the Victory Kids wing. At the same time, the expansion joints near the Café are going to be repaired. Exact dates are yet to be determined. The HVAC system will also be repaired in the near future.
The prairie grass has been planted around the ministry center. The weeds are going to be looked into and mowed/removed properly. The landscaping is also being looked into, and possibly replanting any dead shrubs or trees.
The Leadership Team began a discussion based on a Guiding Principles document which Pastor Ben presented. The goal of this document is to help guide us as we move forward into the future and set forth a vision of where we want to go with God’s help as a church in the next 5 to 10 years. We were reminded of our mission goal here at VOTL. We are to remain outwardly focused, and continue to reach out to those who do not know Jesus with the gospel. We will continue to work on this document before sharing with the congregation.
This brought us to our next topic which is known as Praise and Proclaim Evangelism Training. This is an outreach initiative that VOTL is looking into. The goal is to train members how to confidently proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ with anyone. This training session is being scheduled for October 13th and 14th. We are excited about this opportunity to train our members to spread the gospel to those who may not know Jesus as their Savior.
VOTL is looking to schedule a Security Training Event with the Franklin Police Department. The idea is to continue to maintain a safe environment at VOTL in the event of any weather, health, or security emergency. In the world that we live in, it never hurts to be proactive when it comes to the safety of our members and guests here at VOTL.
The Leadership Team is currently evaluating our Financial Ministry Plan. To summarize as best as we can: Our Pastors are considered self-employed when it comes to Social Security Taxes. They have to pay out of pocket around 15% of the Fair Market Value of their Parsonages. This is a large tax that they encounter at the end of each year. We are looking into how the synod handles this tax with other pastors, and evaluating if VOTL should be helping out our Pastor’s with some of this large tax bill. We are evaluating this and may adjust the budget in the future to reduce the burden on our Pastors.
VOTL is blessed to be able to have Naomi Scheel as a design intern this Summer. She will be working on a redesign of our Logo and also redesign Bible 101-301 and other projects. More info to follow.
We are doing some homework and exploring all of our options when it comes to additional parking spaces at the Ministry Center. Parking has started to become an issue at times, and with our expected growth, it may only become more of a good “problem”. We are waiting for a Parking Lot Proposal from SEH. This proposal involves using a half an acre of land to create 36 more parking spaces. There are many steps before any of this would happen, including approval from the City of Franklin, but as we mentioned, this is only doing our homework at this time. Along with the parking lot proposal SEH is also determining where future building expansion could take place and how that would impact parking and water retention.
August 11th: Chris Driesbach concert at the ministry center at 7pm with a cookout at 6pm.
Next Leadership Team Meeting will be August 14th.
