September 11, 2017 6:30-9:00 pm at the Ministry Center
Present: Jim Vogel, Jay Justmann, Ron Takacs, Jason Seiberlich, Jim Kehoe, Steve Abramowski, Jeff Guenther, Pastor Ben, Pastor Bill
Our meeting began with a devotion based on Psalm 121. Here, we are reminded that the Lord is always watching over us, and that our help always comes from the Lord, our creator. Because of this, we have nothing to fear, even in times of trouble, God will never fail us.
The Leadership Team has been reading a book called The Unstuck Church. We discussed the Introduction and First Chapter at the meeting. This book describes a church as having a life cycle, similar to people. We will be discussing the book each month. The purpose is to help our church remain healthy and growing as we move through different stages. It offers us ideas as to how to continue to remain healthy, while also discussing various pitfalls to be aware of and to avoid. It has new ideas and strategies to discuss, and brought about some excellent conversation between the Leadership Team. We will update as we continue to discuss the book at upcoming meetings.
Youth Updates: Things continue to go well in Victory Kids, pleasantly surprised at the number of kids during the summer, average of about 50. Nursery, under age 2, shown the most growth. Average of 8 kids the past 3 weeks, and 4 new babies haven’t started yet. Opportunities to help a number of children with autism. Pastors to work with Liz to help find additional resources and training. There is a constant challenge right now of having enough teachers and helpers. Liz would like everyone on LT to help out at least once a month.
Updates for Confirmation Class: Change to Sunday nights this year. Create a Middle School Group similar to the high school Quest. Will be using a new lesson plan. Hope is to have better biblical thought and discussion. Desire to have students apply Catechism lessons into their daily life. Pastor Bill and Jon Brown-Schmidt will handle most classes along with some guest speakers.
Updates for Quest: Summer had low attendance due to 3 reasons: 1. Summer family/teen schedules. 2. Holiday’s that fall on Sundays. (Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Memorial and Labor Day, along with the week of the 4th of July) 3. Not a large presence in our church. Plan is better communication with teens and their parents about the Quest program. Overall a good group of kids who are excited to participate. With a great group of Christian leaders, along with God’s help, Quest has a bright future.
Worship Update: Sanctuary Art project is moving forward with the goal to be finished by Christmas. The last details are being finalized. Final piece to be determined is how the new lights will be linked into our current control boards.
Outreach Update: From Pastor Ben: Met with Dave Malnes of Praise and Proclaim via Skype along with Tim and Pat Johnson and Cassy Robbert. Finalizing plans for materials for outreach initiative and October 13th and 14th and family friendly movie night at Friday Oct 20th. Will be opening up online registration and begin encouraging registrations on 9/17 at church for Praise and Proclaim. Tim and Pat have been contacting small groups and are building a team to personally contact our members to get involved. Out District Mission Board also contacted us and expressed an interest in having people participate since we’re the first church in WI to do this kind of initiative. They are excited about it. Also invited members from St Paul’s in Franklin to participate in the evangelism training.
Pastor Ben has been working on a revision of our core curriculum to go along with our new membership / discipleship path: Explore. Grow. Discover. Engage. Currently “test driving” some of the some new course materials in this month’s Bible 201 class before turning it over to Naomi for design.
Pastor Ben and Rich Wallrath meeting with Country Dale School on 9/12 to further explore partnership with VotL to get involved in the community. More details soon to follow.
Ryan Solie agreed to again organize our Operation Jesus Cares Christmas Project with Christ-St Peter. December Date TBA.
Discipleship Update: Pastor Ben and Pastor Bill attended “Faith Unleashed” seminar at Northwestern Publishing House to learn how to better assess spiritual gifts and incorporate that into regular discipleship path. We were encouraged to be equippers of others to do ministry. Pastor Bill preached on 9/10 to present his discipleship vision for Victory of people being in small groups to Learn, Love, Live. Plans to increase # of small groups over the next year.

Property Updates: From Ron: Pastor Bill had his refrigerator replaced. The VK hallway and work room has had the flooring installed. Pest control was called to spray for ants in the gathering area. Quotes went out to 3 contractors for the additional parking lot and resurfacing, waiting for their reply’s. Pastor Bill in contact with new member to make repairs to Pastor Ben’s railings and replacing the front storm door. From Pastor Ben: Ron came over and installed 2 new exterior garage lights at the Kuerth parsonage. Chase Young built a firepit at the ministry center and some benches, also a wood rack and chopped some wood from the old ash tree at the Kuerth parsonage to stock it. This summer Chase also built shelves in the multi-purpose room closet to store soccer camp equipment. He also built some racks in the garage for better storage. Many thanks!
The Leadership Team received a quote for $1750 to cut down weeds and seed the area as you enter into VOTL to beautify that area and clean it up a bit.
SEH provided VOTL some detailed wetland/drainage maps. Jeff Tredo is being contacted to help us as we look into the potential for options for a phase 2 of building at VOTL.
A Security Team is being formed at VOTL. It will be led by Jon Johnson.
Our More Than Bricks campaign will be ending at the end of the year. We will be looking into new campaign agendas as the year comes to a close.
The Pastors and Leadership Team are working on the future Vision for VOTL. This includes future Staffing Positions for the present and future. Three specific positions were being discussed at this meeting:
- Worship Arts Director (Music Team) – This position has been filled for the last 11 years by Sarah Kuerth. It is now the time to recognize all of her hard work and the time that she puts in for every service at VOTL preparing music and musicians. We are going to go ahead and create this position for Sarah starting immediately. It will be a $10,000 a year position. It is going to be a 2 to 3 year financial commitment to start, with the funding supplied by an anonymous member donation outside the budget. The Leadership Team brought this up and discussed this with Pastor Ben, as well as Sarah. Sarah has done this commitment willingly and joyfully for years. Sarah is very humbled by this position and loves to serve. They receive this as a blessing from the Lord for their family.
- Administrative Office Manager – This position would be 10 hours a week. The job description is still being worked out. It would be working closely with the Pastors and would involve scheduling for them as well as scheduling things for the property at VOTL. Pastor Ben will present first draft of potential job descriptions at our next meeting. Nothing has yet been decided.
- Communications Director – This job description is also being worked out. It would be based on dealing with Social Media for VOTL. Pastor Ben will present first draft of potential job descriptions at our next meeting. Nothing has yet been decided.
The possibility of grants being used for these last 2 positions is being investigated. These positions are part of the Vision that the Leadership Team is looking into as we move forward at VotL.
Once again the Praise and Proclaim Evangelism Training Event is coming up on October 13th and 14th. This is a great opportunity to learn how to confidently and comfortably share Jesus. All our members are encouraged to participate.
Next Leadership Team Meeting will be October 9th.
