In a couple days America will be waiting expectantly for the results of an annual event.
(What’s that? … There’s something called the Super Bowl this Sunday? Personally, I’ve tried to forget about this reality after the outcome of the NFC Championship game two weeks ago!)
But no I’m not talking about the Super Bowl. I’m talking about what America is anticipating on the morning after—Groundhog’s day. According to folklore if that little groundhog sees his shadow and scoots back into its burrow, winter will linger for six more weeks. But if it’s cloudy and it doesn’t see its shadow, then spring will come early. I know, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me either. Somehow I think winter is going to last a while here no matter what. Yet some people still seem to care about that little shadow.
Well this Sunday at VotL we’re going to learn about some more important shadows. These were shadows that pointed ahead to the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. But now that Christ has come, we don’t have to get too worked up about the shadows. So we’ll see together how Christ fulfilled and embodied these shadows, the dangers of not understandings what this means for our lives, and the joy of living in the freedom Jesus Christ came to bring.
Take a peek at the verses we’ll be studying this Sunday as we continue our Profile series in Colossians 2:16-23. Do you see any of the shadows?
