Celebrating God’s Generosity

Celebrating God’s Generosity

Dear friends,

How does your house look? Wrapping paper anywhere? Cookie crumbs decorating your counter-top or even your couch? Pine needles, real or fake, sticking up out of the carpet or like sprinkles on your floor? New toys and new gadgets, here, there, and everywhere? Garbage overflowing? Sink and dishwasher full of dishes? Maybe that is the way your house looks or maybe it’s sparkling clean!

Jesus has come into our messy, dirty world and more specifically into our messy, dirty lives not to make bad people good, but to make dead people alive! Wow, that’s a gift, an eternal gift and it is just perfect for you!

God is supremely generous. Romans 8:32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

Below are a few examples of God’s generosity moving us to be generous too:

Operation Jesus Cares – On a cold, December morning, our congregation teamed up with Christ/St. Peter School students and staff to deliver over 140 bags of groceries and gifts to their neighbors on the south side of Milwaukee! It was a great day of uniting our love for Christ to make a difference in people’s lives that we love and that Christ loves. The picture at the heading of this blog was drawn by one of the students of Christ/St. Peter. The students were not only thankful to us for giving them the opportunity to share Jesus with their neighbors but they were also thankful for the lunch that we provided for them too, a lunch they might not otherwise have had. Thanks for your generosity!

Friends of Jesus – Our congregation also gave over 100 Christmas gifts to needy children at 25 inner city churches and the Milwaukee Rescue Mission. I hope you had as much fun shopping for the kids as they did opening up their gifts. Thanks for your joyful gift giving!

More Than Bricks – Our Second capital campaign, More Than Bricks, is coming to a close on December 31, 2017.

This campaign started in December of 2014 as we had a goal to buy land, build a church and a place of ministry to be able to share the great news of Jesus Christ with our community. The campaign has been very successful and we will exceed our pledged donations by more than 10%. The generosity displayed during this campaign was truly amazing. To God be the Glory! A full report with all the details will be produced and sent out in early January.

Many of our members have regular and automated giving established through our on-line giving program. Some of those offerings are designated to the More than Bricks campaign. If you are currently giving to More than Bricks, and want to stop those offerings, or want to designate those funds to one of our other ministry areas, you will need to make those changes.  This fund category will NOT be shut down however, any offerings given in 2018 to either the Building Fund or More than Bricks will be used in a combination of debt reduction, and a parking lot top coat of asphalt that now needs to be completed by this summer.  For those that use giving envelopes, the More then Bricks envelopes have been replaced by a Building Fund envelope. Should you decide to use them; those offerings will be used as stated above. (The giving envelope boxes are now available at church in the back of the welcome area, please pick them up.)

If you need some help with changing, or establishing your on-line giving account, please contact Jim Vogel at 414-975-0844 or jvogel4@att.net.

God has richly blessed us in many different ways!

Small Group Pilot – Many of you are excited about small groups but are having difficulty finding time to make the benefits of a small group a reality. This January, we are beginning a “pilot” Facebook small group. The small group will be reading a 365 day devotional book called God’s Wisdom for Navigating Life.  The book is based on the book of Proverbs. This pilot small group is limited to 10 people/couples. And actually there are only a couple of spots left. If you would like to be a part of this pilot small group and grow closer to God and to others in our church family through the mutual study of his word contact me asap (because there really are only a couple of spots left)!

Hiring for Ministry Positions at Victory – In order to better support our pastors and ministry leaders in our core mission of reaching unchurched people, the Leadership Team has approved two part-time positions — Office Manager and Communications Coordinator. The Office Manager will provide administrative support. The Communications Coordinator will develop and implement effective marketing/communications strategies for both our church and community audiences.

  1. Resumes should be submitted to Jeff Guenther at jeff@rentwithdiamond.com by December 31, 2017.  Those interviewing for the communications position and have a portfolio of work, please submit that as well.
  2. Interviews will begin early in January, 2018 so that a qualified candidate might be chosen by January 31st.
  3. If there is a candidate that is interested and has the skill set to perform both positions, we would entertain that possibility.
  4. If there is a candidate that would like to volunteer their time and meets the criteria of either of these positions, then we would love to talk with you.

Any questions regarding these positions can be directed to Jeff Guenther at jeff@rentwithdiamond.com or 414-313-0804.

To God be all the Glory!
