God’s Blessings in the New Year (1/4/2010)

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year! Any of you get a Nintendo Wii for Christmas…along with the new and improved Wii Fit? I haven’t ever used the Wii Fit but I hear it’s quite fun. I’m told a lot of the exercises are designed to increase core strength and balance. Interestingly enough one of the articles in this month’s newsletter from Innovative Health and Fitness talks about balance as being the new central focus of the professional fitness community. I guess Nintendo understands how important balance is for physical fitness too.

But I’d say balance is important for spiritual fitness as well. I think the New Year is a great time for each of us to evaluate how balanced our lives are. I for one think physical exercise is vital. I don’t feel or function well when I’ve gotten out of a regular exercise routine. I’m the same way with sleep. You know what I mean. Balance is important. Sleep, work, diet, exercise…but let’s not stop there.

We need to have balance in our lives so that our faith can grow too. Increasing our spiritual fitness is even more vital than physical fitness. Do we use some of our time to pursue God through Bible study, prayer, and worship in church? Do we use time to help our children learn to know Jesus? Do we use time to help others in need and put our faith into practice by serving? Do we have balance in our lives so that spiritual things get a higher priority than earthly things?

If you’re feeling spiritually out of whack, there’s good news though. God hasn’t given up on you. If you make the time to pursue him, he promises to help you. Psalm 145:18 says, “The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” God is our spiritual trainer. Through God’s words of truth in the Bible he promises to be near us and to help us grow in faith.

As you learn more about what he’s done for you through Christ, God says you can expect these results: more love, more joy, more peace, more patience, more kindness, more goodness, more faithfulness, more gentleness, and more self-control. I’d love to help you find spiritual balance in 2010.

So here are some upcoming opportunities for you to prayerfully consider…

New Year, New Bible 101 class: This class is for anyone who wants to learn about God and find honest answers to their spiritual questions. There are two options for you to attend: Tuesday evenings or Saturdays afternoons. This new Bible 101 class starts Saturday, January 23rd from 1:00-2:30 pm and also Tuesday, January 26th, from 6:30-8:00 pm at Innovative Health and Fitness in their community room.

The same lesson will be taught on the Saturdays as the following Tuesdays. For your convenience you have the choice to mix and match the days you can attend—whether Saturday afternoons or Tuesday evenings. Bible 101 is 4 lessons/4 weeks long. Bible 101 is your opportunity to learn about the Bible and ask the spiritual questions that are on your mind.

It is also the first prerequisite to becoming a member of Victory of the Lamb if you’re interested. All materials are provided free of charge. Please let me know if you want to attend so I can have materials for you. Bible 201 will begin the week after Bible 101 for those who want to continue learning more about the Bible.

Sunday Morning Worship: We worship every Sunday at 9:30 am at Showtime Cinema movie theater in Franklin. Everyone is invited! Kids welcome. Come early for free tasty treats and coffee. For directions and more information visit our website: www.victoryofthelamb.com

Adult Bible Fellowship Group: is a Bible study, fellowship, and fun group that meets to discuss the previous Sunday’s sermon and to explore further how the Bible text applies to our everyday lives. The next 4 Wednesday session will begin Wednesday, January 13th, from 6:30-8:00 pm at CESI (Competitive Edge Software, Inc.). 9450 S 54th St. Franklin. All members and attenders are invited and encouraged to participate.

God bless all of you this New Year of His grace!
