January 2020 LEADERSHIP TEAM MEETING
Date/Time/Location: January 20, 2020 at the Ministry Center
Present: Pastor Bill, Pastor Ben, Jeff Guenther, Jacob Guenther, Ronald Takacs, Jason Seiberlich, Kevin Rasmussen
Pastor Bill led a devotion on Matthew 25:34-40. Having open hands allow us to receive and give openly.
Leadership Team Updates
The Leadership Team had a unanimous vote to reach out to JoJo Moore about the open position. Pastor Bill will talk to JoJo and make the request for him to join the Leadership Team.
Kevin Rasmussen volunteered to take over the role of secretary for the team.
Staff Reviews happening this week. Everyone has something to add and everyone is working together.
We have 4 new members on the Music Team who are actively serving in worship.
The Small Group Leader meeting was last Wednesday; Small Group leaders will be a small group themselves. A bigger push will be made in September. Small Group helps people put their faith into practice. Small Groups help us find community and build relationships.
Growing in God’s Word
We have 250 people in the Biblical Storyline reading plan, and over 100 attended the How to Read the Bible class earlier this month. We are all encouraged to be in God’s Word every day – and to pray every day.
The Finance Team is examining some discrepancies in our finances. The bottom line is accurate; the discrepancies are in the different budget categories. The financial report was emailed to the Leadership Team and they had no further discussions or questions.
Linked – a $210,000 payment was made and new staff has been hired. God is generous!
MLC Grant for Student Member – if the home church gives $1,000 then MLC matches with another $1,000. Last year we gave $1,000 and the Leadership Team said yes, we will give the same amount this year.
The Biblical Storyline reading plan is enjoyable; a lecture series will follow in February.
We have a lot of new people coming to church; we had over 500 people in worship on Sunday (January 19). Additionally, we have 13 people in Foundations, and 11 people are signed up for Build. Two of the first time guests on Sunday were high school students. One of them posted on Facebook expressing her thankfulness for the invitation.
Office renovation/expansion may be done by Monday of next week. Parking needs to be addressed; Ron will reach out to the contractors of our old quotes and get them refreshed. We believe we can get qualified bids in one month. We have storage shelves in the garage and the tree trimming looks good.
The sconces in the basement need updating and painting needs to be done in the basement. The upstairs faucet needs replacing and the light fixture above the kitchen island needs repair. The Leadership Team advised to move forward with the repairs and to use the church credit card. It is estimated that all repairs will be $500.
Elm Court Property
This property needs new curtains that will help keep the heat in and the cold air out. Also, Ron is to call about the cabinets.
Church Growth Data
The team reviewed a report on church growth that shows how we are growing as a church in worship attendance, groups and serving, and other items. We average 450 worshipers each Sunday. The ability to stream our services online is a blessing. Most importantly, God is in control of our growth.
Easter Service Times
We had 863 worshipers on Christmas Eve, so the team discussed having three services for Easter. Should we do a Sunrise service? Times discussed were 7:00am, 9:30am and 10:30am. Pastor Bill to discuss with the volunteer team and get their input and make a decision.
Questions/ideas to consider for multisite:
- How do we prepare for Vision Sunday in September?
- Our weaknesses are magnified at the second site.
- Need at least 75 volunteers to be ready to start 2nd site.
- Where do we go? Who will take it on? Who will be the lead Pastor?
- Will we live stream?
- Will we call a Pastor?
- Put a template down on paper and determine what can be replicated.
Discussed keeping Pastor Bill and Ben here. Also discussed possible partnerships with other churches that align with our mission and identity. Where would we find worship space? Other possible sites discussed are Mount Pleasant and/or Kenosha. We are all encouraged to pray about this project.
Next meeting is scheduled for February 10, 2020 at 6:30 pm.
