August 14, 2017 6:30-9:00 pm at the Ministry Center
Present: Jim Vogel, Jay Justmann, Ron Takacs, Jason Seiberlich, Jim Kehoe, Steve Abramowski, Jeff Guenther, Pastor Ben, Pastor Bill
Our meeting began with a devotion based on Psalm 118. Here, we are reminded to proclaim what the Lord has done! Share the good news with joy and thankfulness.
We welcomed Tim and Pat Johnson to our meeting to talk about the Praise and Proclaim Evangelism Training Event on October 13th and 14th. The goal of the event is to increase our confidence to talk about our Savior to others. Training will occur on the 13th and a Door to Door opportunity will occur on the 14th. We will be looking for as many people as possible to take part in this important event. The goal of VOTL is for everyone to be confident and comfortable to have a spiritual conversation with others in order to share the gospel message.
Victory Stories over the last month included: Amanda Dodge making her debut as a singer for the Music Team—connected via our Host Team to the Music Team. A wonderful story of a woman who watched our first service on line, and was so impressed that she came to the second service just to check it out in person. And lastly, 4 new babies were born into our church family in a span of 8 days.
Outreach Updates: Pastor Ben met with David Malnes from Praise and Proclaim via Skype along with Tim and Pat Johnson. Tim and Pat will be the visible lay leaders of this outreach effort. They also met with Cassy who will help coordinate details. Tim and Pat will be contacting VOTL members to build early buy-in and to recruit other recruiters. As previously mentioned, Praise and Proclaim will take place on Friday evening October 13th with training and October 14th putting training into practice by going door-to-door. The goal is to train people to be able to share the gospel confidently and comfortably with anyone. There will be a postcard and other evangelism tools developed. Pastor Ben hopes to also build an evangelism team of people. Some of whom will be able to go door-to-door with him once or twice a year and some of whom who will be willing to do follow up on worship guests and event attenders. The Pastors are planning a new sermon series to start the Sunday after the Praise and Proclaim event. Cassy and Pastor Ben have begun planning a family oriented follow up to soccer camp for Saturday Oct 21st and a rhythm of 4 outreach events that flow into each other throughout the year which might include a one day Drop N Shop event for kids / parents over Christmas, a Valentine’s Day Dinner/Date Night in Feb where parents could drop off their kids for an evening, soccer camp in the summer, and a family event in the Fall that would be a natural follow up to soccer camp.
Discipleship Updates: Pastor Bill and Pastor Ben met to discuss small groups, confirmation class, and Quest. They talked about small group content and opportunities/challenges related to small groups, ways to engage kids in confirmation class, and efforts to promote Quest. They also talked about ways to include volunteers in these ministry areas and the blessings that volunteer/paid office help would be to the pastors. Pastor Bill met with Jon Brown-Schmidt regarding confirmation class moving to Sunday nights and 3 times a month.
New members since our last meeting are: Joel and Christina Cowan, along with children Dominic, Anthony, and Gianna. Kory and Leanne Higgins, along with children Jonah and Caleb. Christy Wagner and her son Will. Baptisms included Quinn Marie Seiberlich, Sailor Fletcher Biesterfeld, and Liam Mark Grimm.
Transfers out of VOTL include Karen Niedfeldt and Katie Loper to Holy Cross Lutheran Church (WELS) in Tucson, AZ.
Fiscal Year financials to report: Total Income=$344,105 vs. budget of $352,500. Total expenses were $334,859 vs. budget of $352,109. Net income of $9,255.
The floor was finished in the Victory Kids hallway and looks fantastic.
Research continues to see if it is appropriate to add 36 new parking spaces as well as finishing the second layer of asphalt in the VOTL parking lot. As new quotes and information comes in, we will be sure to update the congregation.
The Leadership Team discussed the possibility of cleaning up the first impression look of our church as people pull into VOTL. We discussed the possibility of cleaning up some of the weeds and putting in a little more maintained landscape especially along Loomis Rd. The goal is to have a sharper and cleaner look to VOTL. More information to follow.
Once again, we discussed a new logo for VOTL. Our focus or target audience for the logo is unchurched millennials and their friends. Key ideas for this include: vibrant, welcoming, sincere, and impactful. This will also lead into a website refresh as well.
The Leadership Team discussed the membership path at VOTL. It will be changing from the current Bible 101,201,301 in order to meet people where they are at, but at the same time maximizing the time and impact of our pastors as we grow. They are exploring making it a path of 4 components where it would be clear to everyone who is new to church how to take their next steps, grow, and get connected. Pastor Ben is working on combing elements of our current Bible 101-201 class into one step along this path. Look for this path to be rolled out in the Fall.
Our Emergency Response Training Event took place on 8/17 in conjunction with the Franklin Police Department. It was well attended with over 20 members present. A number of people are willing got form a new security team at church as a result.
Next Leadership Team Meeting will be September 11th.
