Leadership Team Minutes – July 2020

JuLY 2020 Leadership Team Meeting

Date/Time/Location: July 13, 2020, 6:30pm

Present: Pastor Bill, Pastor Ben, Jacob Guenther, Jeff Guenther, Jim Vogel, Ronald Takacs, Jason Seiberlich
Absent: JoJo Moore, Kevin Rasmussen

Devotion

Pastor Bill led a devotion on John 4:1-26. It’s okay to be tired. It’s okay to not be okay. Jesus was also tired: Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well (John 4:6). Being tired or weary doesn’t mean you don’t have faith. It means you have a place to sit with Jesus.

Victory Stories

We’re back to worshiping in-person, and our online attendance continues to be strong. Several new families in church are taking classes for membership.

“GO” (Sharing Jesus)

School Reopening

We will work with a dozen area churches for MobilizeMKE again in August. This time, it’s to gather school supplies to support local students. We can also look for ways to support local schools with whom we’ve worked in the past (Country Dale, Christ/St. Peter)

Blood Drive

We have another blood drive coming up at the end of July. The blood supply in Milwaukee is desperately low. What a blessing it is to be able to give the gift of life to people!

Personal Evangelism

In order to reach today’s people with Christ’s victory, we all need to continue to share Jesus with our friends, family, and neighbors. This is going to be a key moving forward for growth.

GATHER (Worship together)

Reopening In-Person Worship

We are currently reserving 80 seats per service. Roughly 90% of those registering are attending. With limited seating due to the pandemic, we are at about 43% of our in-person attendance as of March 1. Other churches are averaging 20%. We are considering whether or not we can safely increase our reservation number to 90 and still keep seats open for visitors who may not have known to reserve seats.

Watch Parties/Micro-Sites/Multi-Sites

Pastor Ben and Dan Albrecht from Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School have been working together to determine if it’s possible for Victory to host watch parties at KMLHS. Dan sent over the building reservation contract for us to consider. Pastor Ben will continue to take next steps on this.

The Leadership Team discussed whether it might be a possibility to rent out a building to watch services in smaller groups, and whether this site would need a pastor on location. It may also be a possibility to try Victory Kids at these watch party locations.  The Leadership Team will discuss future staffing for online services and additional sites.

Groups (Bible Studies & Small Groups)

Men’s and Women’s Mentoring

Pastor Ben has gathered five mentors to lead men’s groups of 3-6 per group. There is also a women’s mentoring group starting up. These groups will help support the growth of individuals and help Victory develop leaders within our congregation.

Regional Groups

We are still considering what it might look like to group the congregation into “regional groups” to get to know each other and support one another based on where they live.

Small Groups

Small groups look very different at this time. Pastor Ben will meet with small group leaders in August to determine next steps for each group. Promoting small groups will be just one part of developing deeper discipleship at Victory.

GIVE (Offering & Finances)

FY 2020-2021 Budget

The team reviewed this year’s fiscal budget. They discussed the generous June offerings and how Victory might use these to support our community.

GROW (individual Bible study)

Members of the team discussed how they are growing in their faith. They discussed how they can be in their Bibles daily, attend the monthly lectures on-line, participate in the Facebook live studies on Wednesday at 7:00am with Pastor Ben, and attend church.

Properties

Parking Lot

Kari and Ron are working with the City of Franklin to address design and permit issues. We will work to get the maximum number of parking spaces possible based on the design and building codes. Process may be delayed longer than anticipated. The project is currently on hold per the City until the end of July.

Church Insurance

Victory will update our insurance at renewal. Jeff will email Leadership Team the new policy for them to review.
