Higher Calling
A brand is an organization’s reputation. It’s what you think of a company or person when you hear their name. What do you think of when you see the Nike swoosh? What do you think of when you hear the name Chick-fil-a? What do most people think of when they hear the word “Christianity”? Maybe they think intolerant or hateful.
The good news is that we don’t need to change Christianity so that it might be more attractive to outsiders. We just need to rediscover the beliefs, principles, and practices of Jesus’ earliest followers. From the very beginning, Christians were known as people who made sacrifices for others, even their enemies. They were united not by their class or ethnicity but by their commitment to Jesus and his kingdom.
We want to reclaim this wonderful heritage. We want to learn what it looks like to do good and love the people around us. This does not mean we compromise God’s truth. Nor does it mean everyone will respond well to Christianity. Jesus promised opposition. But we can become the kind of community that Jesus started two thousand years ago.
