Ordinary People-Extraordinary God: Gideon
the big idea:
Ordinary People—Extraordinary God is a reoccurring series that focuses on the powerful things God does through his people.
In this segment we focus on an Old Testament hero from the book of Judges. Only from the outside (like most of the Bible champions) Gideon looked like a pretty unlikely hero. Filled with doubts and fears and more than a little deceit, Gideon would have never succeeded if he hadn’t been backed by the powerful hand and blessing of God. A perfect picture of the church and our individual Christian lives today!
This series will take us through one of the high festival seasons of the church with a focus on the power of God to save and defend his people.
David to the Philistines just before God used him to bring down Goliath. “This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands” (1 Samuel 17:46-48).
