Who Is This Man? The Unpredictable Impact of the Inescapable Jesus

the big idea:

In this five-session sermon series/small group bible study, we will consider the indisputable influence Jesus has had on our world.

Jesus is history’s most familiar figure. His impact on the world is immense and non-accidental. From a human viewpoint, his movement should have failed before it even started. But Jesus’ impact was greater a hundred years after his death that it was during his life; it was greater still after five hundred years and after two thousand years he has more followers in more places than ever.

His life and teaching simply drew people to follow him. He made history by starting in a humble place, in a spirit of love and acceptance. He shared and he live God’s message of sin and grace allowing each person space to respond.

His vision of life continues to haunt and challenge humanity. His influence has swept over history bringing inspiration to what has happened in art, science, government, medicine, and education And how his vision for us to lead lives of dignity, compassion, forgiveness, and hope continues to inspire and challenge humanity today.

“You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”” (John 6:67-69).

Why It’s a Small World After All (Reformation)

We stand shoulder to shoulder as we confess our sin, receive communion, profess our faith and sing God’s praise because we recognize that we all sin and are all justified freely through Jesus Christ who loves us. Scriptures: Ephesians 2:1-10; Psalm 46 Sermon Text: Luke 18:9-14

The Power of Forgiveness

Jesus brings an end to us vs. them restoring peace to every broken relationship. This is an incredibly radical ideal that has the power to melt even the hardest of hearts.

A Revolution of Humanity

Jesus came to live and die for all. Every soul is precious in God’s sight. Every soul is redeemed in the blood of Christ.
