Profile: Prayer (Epiphany)

It’s Paul’s prayer (and ours) that our study of Colossians will help us better understand who we are in Christ . Colossians 1:1-14
A Long Time Coming

The Forerunner

God promised that he would send a forerunner who would prepare the way for the coming Savior by proclaiming our need for deliverance. How is God preparing your heart for your Deliverer? Sermon Text: Mark 1:1-8
A Long Time Coming

The Prophet

God’s people were waiting for a Prophet like Moses. The prophet brought God’s word to the ears of God’s people. God sent his Son into this world to reveal his truth that you might see and understand his promises fulfilled. Sermon Text: John 1:1-9
A Long Time Coming

The Priest

God’s people were waiting for the promised great High Priest. The priest was the representative of God before the people, offering the require sacrifices for sin. Jesus came into the world to represent you in his life and his sacrificial death and bring you God’s promised salvation. Sermon Text: Matthew 1:18-25
A Long Time Coming

The King

God’s people were waiting for the promised King of kings. The king was the protector and the deliverer of God’s people. God came into the world so that he could keep his promise to protect and deliver you. Sermon Text: Luke 1:26-35

Priority

What is really important for the here and now? What is your priority? That question will only be answered correctly when we understand how this life relates to eternity. Text: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

Integrity

In a world that avoids personal responsibility and doesn’t feel comfortable passing judgment, we find security in the fact that there is right and wrong, accountability and consequences – integrity. Sermon Text: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11

Fidelity

For many in our world struggling for sound doctrine seems trivial. “Is it really worth it?” Absolutely! Because the truth alone sets us free. Daniel 6:10-12, 16-23

Rejoicing – Keep Calm and Rejoice On

Anxiety can feel crippling. Constant worry can make us want to pull the covers over our head. But God promises to guard our hearts and minds with the peace that transcends all human understanding. As we take God up on his invitation to pray, he wants to replace our worrying with rejoicing. Sermon Text: Philippians 4:4-9

Straining

The most important part of getting spiritually unstuck often is forgetting what is behind, and straining toward what is ahead. We see this especially in the life of the Apostle Paul whose life was radically changed by God when he realized that he could never earn his way into heaven by striving harder and harder. In fact, Paul started moving forward in his faith only when he understood clearly that he could stop striving to earn heaven because it was earned by Christ’s perfect striving. Sermon Text: Philippians 3:17-14

Shining

God’s plan instead is to work in us to change our attitudes and our actions, to bring us closer to him, so that we can shine like stars as we hold out his word of life to our dying world. Sermon Text: Philippians 2:12-18

Advancing

Even when we feel stuck, God is working in ways we cannot even imagine. Sometimes we just need to sit back and look for the ways God is moving things forward in and around us. Of this we can confident: the God who recruited us on to this spiritual journey will also bring it to completion so that we are ready for our Lord’s return. Sermon Text: Philippians 1:12-30
