Not Filters, But Transparency

Often influencers are tempted to filter their life to their audience, giving the impression that they are better people than they actually are. Paul, on the other hand, was honest about his brokenness and sinfulness. He wanted to be transparent about his sinfulness so that his followers could see the extent of God’s grace for sinners. Where did sin come from?

Right at the start of the Bible, we read in Genesis how God created a perfect earth with perfect people. However, things didn’t stay perfect forever. God’s creation used the free will given to them by their Creator to be tempted by Satan, thereby staining the world forever. But is this where sin actually started – in the Garden of Eden? Or did it start when Satan fell from Heaven? And why did God allow this to happen at all?…

We Need the Light

When God first created the earth, everything was full of light … until it wasn’t. The world became a very dark place in a heartbeat. After humans fell into sin, God promised to send a rescuer to bring light into the darkness of sin. As we recognize our need for the light of Christ in our lives, we can rest on God’s promises to save us from the darkness. Sermon Text: Genesis 3:1-15

God Saves Us

God saved His people from slavery in Egypt. After traveling through the desert, the Israelites were finally close to the Promised Land. But then God changed their direction. The people started to grumble and God allowed them to be bitten by snakes. In his grace, he provided healing through the bronze snake. When the consequences of our sin leave us in pain, Jesus says that we can look to him who was lifted up on the cross. He will save…

Temptation

Satan wants us to believe the lie that God doesn’t know what He’s doing. We believe Satan and try to make ourselves into gods, because if we’re god, we can do whatever we want. We see other people get away with things we know are wrong, so we decide it’s okay to do those things too. When we make the decision to indulge in temptation, we hurt our relationship with others and with God. In love, God tells us “No” for our eternal good. 1 Corinthians 10:13

The Blame Game

We all struggle when we play the blame game. When things go wrong, we blame our-selves for not being enough. We blame our friends and family. And, whether we admit it or not, we blame God. While it’s important to take responsibility when we’re at fault and allow others to face the consequences for their actions, the real culprit for our struggles is sin. So, to stop the struggle with blame, we can rely on Jesus, who took the blame for our sin. Genesis 3:8-15

Faith Treasures Jesus’ Forgiveness

What a contrast between Simon and the nameless woman who anointed Jesus with her perfume and her tears! In Jesus’ forgiveness, we have so much to be thankful for. Sermon Text: Luke 7:36-50
Like Us in Every Way

Our Suffering

Our sins lead us to seek admiration and comfort. What we deserve is God’s temporal and eternal punishment. Jesus drank the cup of suffering for us. Sermon Text: Matthew 20:17-28

Our Weakness

A Body of Death Because of sin we carry around what Paul calls “a body of death.” Our bodies are cursed with struggles like pain, disease, and addiction. Jesus endured the pain of flogging, beating, and the cross so that we could be rescued from pain and sickness forever.  Scriptures:  Matthew 26:47-68 Sermon Text:   John 9:1-7; 13-17,34-39

Profile Compromised

All the Old Testament laws were a shadow of Jesus. Jesus is the real thing. The things we do DO NOT make us a Christian. Sermon Text: Colossians 2:16-23
