Who Told You All Religions are Basically the Same?

Most religions seem superficially similar. All religions have a form of prayer, types of worship, and a way of life. And yet, if you scratch below the surface, you will find that Christianity is fundamentally different from all other religions. Most religions give their followers a type of ladder, a system of rules to live by to “climb up to God”. But Christianity presents a story about God working through his people in order that He might come down to…

Who Told You… Science Disproves God?

Science is about discovering how and why things work. Biology can teach you why blood clots, Chemistry explains why certain ingredients make a cake rise, and so on. These principles are not contrary to what Jesus commands us to do when he tells us to practice science and observe the natural world. The problem is that some people believe science disproves a need for a Creator. However, just because we might know scientifically how something works doesn’t disprove the Creator…

Hope Lives (Easter 2020)

Sometimes, it’s hard to believe that we need a Savior. Other times, we can’t imagine why Jesus would love us enough to die for us. People tell us Jesus was just a man, punished wrongfully, who died almost 2,000 years ago. But he’s much more than that. On the day we now celebrate as Good Friday, Jesus rescued us from our sin. And three days later, on Easter, He rose from the dead. Because of his resurrection, Hope lives forever…

Rescued (Good Friday 2020)

We are all rescued at the cross, the place that demonstrates the depth of our Savior’s love for the world–all sinners, including us. Good Friday is at the heart of Christianity where we see at the cross of Jesus both God’s holy justice and perfect love on display. The cross is also our guarantee that God can take the worst things ever, and make them work out for our ultimate good! Sermon Text: John 19:16-30

Love One Another (Maundy Thursday)

On Maundy Thursday, we are reminded of the reconciliation we have because of Christ’s body and blood given for the forgiveness of our sin.  We are also reminded of the example of self-giving love shown by our Lord as he washed the feet of his disciples. Sermon Text: John 13:1-17, 34-35

High Anxiety: Find Purpose in Suffering

When you’re suffering and in the middle of a tough time, it’s often difficult to find joy. The people to whom Peter was writing were being persecuted for sharing Jesus with their culture. Peter encourages them to “cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” We can learn from this advice too; when we focus on the promises of God and His love for us, rather than our earthly suffering, our perspective changes and we find purpose…
