We often get stuck in self-pity, focusing only on the negative. We think we’re all alone in our suffering. We need a change of focus. We need to stop and consider what God has done for us and what we share as members of his family. That change in focus has the power to change our whole attitude.
Scriptures: First Lesson: Exodus 16:1-18; Gospel: Matthew 8:5-13
Sermon Text: Philippians 1:2-11
My Next Steps
Connect: How easy it is to lose focus. Share a story of someone who lost focus (or personal example).
Aha: Losing focus spiritually (also very easy) will have a negative impact on our lives, perhaps even disastrous. Focusing on God’s love for us in Jesus always has the power to get us back on a healthy track!
Treasure: Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will care it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. – Philippians 1:6
Challenge: Think about times in your life when it seems easy for you to lose your focus on Christ. What king of impact does that have on you emotionally? In other words, what are the clues that you should be looking for that you’ve lost your focus? What plan will you put into place when you notice that your focus is lost?
