Living Stones

It’s confirmation Sunday. While confirmation is a milestone in our lives, as spiritual stones Jesus continues to hew us as living stones, shaping and fashioning our lives so that we bring him praise.

Point to Ponder: Who you are in Christ determines what you do.

Treasure to Share: “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Pet 2:9)

Actions to Take:

  • If you have already been confirmed, think of your confirmation verse. Can you recite it from memory? Or have you forgotten which verse it is? If you can remember what it is, of if you have to take a trip down memory lane, write down the reference to your confirmation verse on a stone or a rock. Keep that rock somewhere you can see it on a regular basis as a reminder that you are a living stone and part of God’s house built on the Living Stone of Jesus.
  • Has it been a while since you read Luther’s Small Catechism? Re-read it here and as you do ask yourself how it applies differently from when you first read it.
  • Luther wrote the Large Catechism as a guide for parents when teaching the Small Catechism. Ever read it? If not, take a portion and read it this week.
