Points to Ponder: The Library of Congress lays claims to being the largest library in the world, with more than 130 million items on approximately 530 miles of bookshelves. The collections include more than 29 million books and other printed materials and 58 million manuscripts. Yet among all these volumes how many are able to change a reader’s heart or eternal destiny? Very few. Only copies of the Bible are “alive and powerful” and able to give new birth and new life to a soul.
Treasures to Share:
- The word of God is living and active (Hebrews 4:12a).
- Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ. (Romans 10:17)
Action to Take: Add this short prayer to your family prayers this week. Maybe at the end of a family meal. And if you find it fits your family desires more and more – continue to use it or one like it each time you begin a personal Bible reading session. “O Lord, turn our hearts to your word. Give us a desire for it and then open our eyes to see wonders there. Holy Spirit, influence our wills and give us a cheerfully obedient spirit. Point us especially to Jesus and his work for us. Give us new life day by day. Amen.”
