People who are spiritually stuck have this ugly tendency to complain and to argue. But this doesn’t help anyone inside or outside the church come closer to God. God’s plan instead is to work in us to change our attitudes and our actions, to bring us closer to him, so that we can shine like stars as we hold out his word of life to our dying world.
Scriptures: First Lesson: Numbers 12:1-16; Gospel: Mark 5:1-20
Sermon Text: Philippians 2:12-18
My Next Steps
Connect: Share a horror story of someone within the church (but don’t call out any person or church by name!) behaving badly and putting an ugly taste in the mouth of someone who didn’t know Jesus. We may be shocked at this person’s behavior, but we’ve all probably done the same thing at one time or another.
Aha: Truth is, if we’re going to be people who shine like stars in this dark world, it’s going to have to be Jesus in us and shining through us.
Treasure: It is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose (Philippians 2:13b).
Challenge: Spend some time this week thinking about the message you share with others about Jesus through your words, actions and attitudes.
