Think of the cheers of Palm Sunday: “Hosanna to the Son of David!” Then think of the jeers five days later: “Crucify him!” We may shake our heads. Yet, how easily we can get dragged along with the wrong crowd!
Scriptures: First Lesson: Zechariah 9:9,10; Second Lesson: Philippians 2:5-11
Sermon Text: Mark 11:1-11; Mark 15:6-15
My Next Steps
Passage to Ponder: “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest heaven!” … “‘Crucify him!’ Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.” (Mark 11:9-10; Mark 15:14-15)
Treasure to Share: Perhaps you are sitting in a church service at this very moment, worshiping Jesus. That is absolutely wonderful! But how easy it is for us to follow someone or something that leads us not to Jesus, but directly away from him. Though we believe in Jesus as our Savior, we are incapable of living perfectly. Therefore, beware of people or things that lure you down paths that lead away from Jesus.
Plan for Holy Week: Travel through Holy Week with your Savior. Recognize him as the King he is, listen to his words, receive his true body and blood in Holy Communion, consider your sins, watch him suffer, die, and be buried, and finally on Easter, rejoice that he lives, and because he lives, so will you!
