It’s safe to say that nobody could have predicted our current situation. Who would have thought that much of the world would be locked behind closed doors, fearing the rapid spread of COVID-19? Who could have guessed that our world would be turned upside down, schools canceled, sports postponed, businesses closed, and (strangest of all) Easter moved out of the church building.
Although our current reality is bizarre, it’s not much different from the first Easter Sunday. 2000 years ago, Jesus’ disciples were also locked behind closed doors in fear of what could happen to them. Their world was turned upside down when their hope died on a dark Friday afternoon.
Yet, it was in this hopeless situation that the resurrected Jesus appeared and said, “Peace be with you!” With his words and presence, he turned their fear into joy and gave purpose to their paralysis.
What if he did it again? What if Jesus showed up in our homes, behind our locked doors with his peaceful presence? I believe he will, but not in exactly the same way he appeared on the first Easter. I believe his peaceful presence will appear through the Holy Spirit as you open your Bibles to listen to his voice.
Here’s one way that you can invite him into your homes: Worship with us online. Sit with us around God’s Word as we let him into our lives so that he might give us hope.
I invite you, your family, and your friends to join online for Easter at Victory this Saturday at 5:00pm or Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am.
Sharing Christ’s victory,
