Victory News – August 14, 2020

the one

Hi Friends,

Can I be honest? Weekend worship is bittersweet for me. I remember a few months ago when we entered church to the smell of fresh egg-bake and hot coffee. I remember how the worship space was filled with people singing to their God. And our biggest problem was our overcrowded parking lot. I remember how Sunday morning seemed to be my one-stop-shop that met my physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. And it all happened in about one hour!

Don’t get me wrong. Worship is still life-giving, even when we are meeting online or in-person with masks and socially distant. But that one hour on the weekend doesn’t seem to be what it used to. But then again…maybe weekend worship wasn’t ever supposed to meet all my needs.

You see, there are 168 hours in a week. And for most of those hours, we are being discipled by the news, the media, social media, and Hollywood. Be honest. How often are they leading you closer to Jesus, the truth of his Word, and the glory of God? One hour a week in worship, no matter how good, isn’t enough to keep you “abiding in Christ” (John 15:5).

That’s why your brothers and sisters at Victory are working hard to help you engage your faith for all 168 hours of the week.

Engage During the Week

The Bible says when we meditate day and night on the Scriptures, we are like trees planted by a stream of water (Psalm 1). It also says that when we work hard to mature in our faith, we will not be tossed about by every wind of the world’s teaching (Ephesians 4:11-16). You see, being a Christian is not a one-hour-a-week event, but a 24/7 walk with Jesus.

I look forward to worshiping with you for an hour this weekend in person or online  this Saturday at 5:00pm or Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am. But I’m even more excited about interacting and growing with you during the other 167 hours of the week.

Sharing Christ’s victory,

Pastor Ben

ICYMI – Last weekend, Pastor Bill kicked off a new series called The One. Every life is important to God, which is exactly why it’s important for Christians to share the Good News of Jesus with the world. Click here to read or watch this message.

Coming Up This Weekend – This weekend, Pastor Ben will share the parable of the prodigal son. Jesus tells this story to show that he is looking seek and save both kinds of people. He loves both the rebellious prodigal and the self-righteous religious person. Join us on Saturday at 5:00pm or Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am. You can join in for these services in person or online.

Mentoring at Victory – Do you ever feel like you are spiritually stuck? Like you’d appreciate some direction in how to be the person you want to be in Christ? The purpose of the mentoring groups. is to help you grow into confident, faithful Christians while building relationships with others at Victory. This group is led by Pastor Ben and other leaders in our congregation. Learn more and sign up for one of the informational meetings at votl.life/mentoring.

Bedtime Stories at Victory – Bring your family and invite your kids’ friends to Bedtime Stories at Victory! On Monday, August 24 at 7:00pm, your family can stay in the car and listen to two bedtime stories over your radio as you enjoy bedtime snacks and some quality family time together. The first 50 cars will receive a copy of each of the books that will be read, and the first 125 children will receive a snack and a prize. Watch your email next week for an opportunity to volunteer for this event, too!

Crash the Chatterbox Book Study – At one point or another, we all find ourselves listening to our internal “chatterboxes”. These negative voices in our heads lead us down paths of insecurity, fear, condemnation, and discouragement. But worse, they lead us away from Jesus. There are still a few spots left for the study at noon on Thursdays. Book provided, but space is limited. Click here to register for the book study by August 25. (NOTE: This filled up quickly, and we are SO excited! If you are interested but cannot attend this round, please let Pastor Bill know and we’ll alert you when we offer another round.)

We’re Hiring – Victory is hiring a part-time Tech Director to recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers who serve on the Tech Team, as well as manage the technical aspects of our worship services and events. Click here to view the position description. Resumes and letters of interest should be submitted via email no later than TOMORROW, August 15, 2020.

We will have additional safety and sanitizing procedures in place to keep you and your children safe as we reopen our children’s ministry program. We’ll ask for you to reserve spots for your children on the same form you reserve your seats for worship. Can’t wait to see you and your kids at Victory!
