Any struggles with temptation this summer?
The devil doesn’t climb the fence at the highest spot. He comes to the fence where it is the lowest. The point is, know your weaknesses because that is likely the place where Satan will attack you. The Bible says that the devil is like a prowling lion looking for someone to devour. While a lion may look harmless in the distance of the cavernous zoo display, it would be crazy to go up to a prowling lion in the African desert and call out, “Here kitty, kitty.” Yet, that is what Satan wants us to do.
Satan is really good at enticing us. Temptation knocks loudly on our hearts. Satan lies and tells us we deserve it, we will love it, we will be fulfilled by it, no one will get hurt. It seems there is no way out. No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)
God himself is the way out of temptation. Focus on who Jesus is and what he has done for you. See his hands and the nail marks that took your sin and know those are the hands the fought for you, won, and still protect you today. God is so big and so much better than the lie of temptation and the sting of sin.
If you have fallen into sin, look at the loving eyes of Jesus and see those nail-scarred hands welcoming you back home!
