Victory News – August 19, 2022

Hi Friends,

The other night after dinner I read Psalm 23 as a part of our family devotion.

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul…

When I told my kids we would be reading this Psalm, they rolled their eyes. (Which is something that seems to happen more frequently now that we have two teenagers.) They had heard this Psalm so often that they knew it by heart. And so, they thought there was nothing they could get out of it.

I get it. It was challenging to write my sermon on this Psalm because I figured most people already knew it so well that they wouldn’t see the need to hear it again.

But the more I studied this Psalm, the more I recognized why it has become so popular, especially at funerals. In this Psalm, David teaches us how to have a childlike faith in our Lord. He teaches us to depend on the Lord so that we can have peace in the deepest places of our heart.

You’re invited to join us for worship this Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am. You can worship at Victory, on our live stream site, or on our YouTube channel.

Sharing Christ’s Victory,

Pastor Ben

CURRENT SERIES: Summer Playlist

ICYMI – Pastor Bill continued our series Summer Playlist: Sermons from Psalms, with a message about Psalm 13. This Psalm begins with a lament to God over difficulties. We can all relate to this on some level and like David, we sometimes feel forgotten by God and wonder how long we will have to suffer. When we go to God and study His Word in difficult times, we come to realize that we can trust in His unfailing love and remain sure of our salvation through Jesus. To read and watch the message, click here

Coming Up This Weekend –  Pastor Ben continues the series with a message about Psalm 23. One of the top hits in the Psalms playlist, Psalm 23 is well-known but often misconstrued. We often hear this at funerals or see it on artwork, but we don’t really understand what the Psalmist David meant by it. We will take a deeper look at this psalm to understand how our Good Shepherd walks with us through thick and thin. You can join in on Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am at Victory, on our live stream site, or our YouTube channel.
