Maybe you’ve had a similar experience to Chris’ mom. Three-year-old Chris was one of three boys in a family who lived in North Carolina. Allison (also three years old), her two sisters, and her parents were his neighbors.
On hot Friday afternoons, the two moms and six kids would pile into this big ugly green station wagon and drive an hour to the beach. They would spend all day at the beach and then jump back into the station wagon to go home.
One Friday, about thirty minutes into their drive home, Allison asked, “Where is Chris?” After a quick survey of the occupants in the station wagon, it was discovered that Chris was not in the car.
Allison’s mom slammed on the brakes. The tires squealed and smoked until that big old station wagon had done a 180 and was speeding back to the beach.
When they got to the beach, everyone flew out of the car and began an all out search for Chris. After what seemed like an eternity of searching, Chris’s mom found him at the furthest life guard station. You can imagine the tears of relief and joy because that which was lost was found.
God is on an all-out search for those who are lost from him. And he is inviting you and me to join the biggest search-and-rescue mission in the history of the world because lost people matter to God.
