This past week, the crisis in Kenosha was added to the long list of traumatic, dark events in 2020. I spent the first half of my life in the Kenosha area, so this incident hit close to home. Throughout the week, I found myself sucked into all the news surrounding the events, as well as following the many different views on social media. I found the more I went down the rabbit hole of opposing opinions, the darker it got and the more overwhelmed I felt.
So here are a few things that I did that helped me out of the darkness:
- I talked to God.
- I listened to God as I read his Word.
- I turned off my phone for hours at a time.
- I talked to brothers and sisters in Christ, like Pastor Bill and my wife.
- I took a drive with my family.
As I reconnected to God and God’s wisdom through God’s people, I started to see the light of day. That’s why I’m looking forward to another weekend of worship. I know the church is more than a building, but coming to Victory, praising Jesus, and listening to his Word is my hiding place. It’s my refuge and strength.
If you find yourself descending into the rabbit hole of emotional darkness, I encourage you to worship with your brothers and sisters in Christ this weekend, whether in-person or online. We need to help each other find the light of Christ and the hope of a better future.
I look forward to worshiping with you for an hour this weekend in person or online this Saturday at 5:00pm or Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am.
Sharing Christ’s victory,
CURRENT SERIES – THE ONE
ICYMI – Last weekend, Pastor Bill continued the series with a message about reaching people in our lives with Jesus. Jesus wants us to be completely committed to reaching “the one” lost person in our life. Click here to read or watch this message.
Coming Up This Weekend – This weekend, Pastor Ben wraps up the series with a message about using the Word of God to reach people with Jesus. Jesus says that it is the Word of God that really leads people to believe in him. Join us on Saturday at 5:00pm or Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am. You can join in for these services in person or online.
Country Dale Support – Partner with Victory in supporting Country Dale Elementary as they prepare to reopen the school this fall. They are in need of school supplies, disinfecting wipes, and hand sanitizer. We’ve put together a wish list for Target where you can select items and purchase at the store, pick-up, or ship directly to Victory. Click here to view the Target wish list and purchase. (NOTE: You cannot purchase disinfecting wipes or hand sanitizer online, but we encourage you to pick up some to donate.) Please bring your donations to Victory during worship through August 30.
