Recently I was driving through the mountains in Northern Arizona. There are some really steep grades around Flagstaff. And with steep grades come dramatic dropoffs.
If you have ever driven through mountainous regions, you know there are guardrails in place to keep you from going over the edge. The guardrails are not there to keep you from enjoying the view or to keep you from having fun. The guardrails are put up out of love and concern for our safety so we can keep having fun.
God does everything in love for us. When God rescued the Israelites out of slavery, it was because He loved them. Right after that rescue, God gave them (and us) the Ten Commandments out of love and concern for us. He wasn’t trying to be mean or to keep us from having fun. He was demonstrating his love by setting up guardrails for our relationship with Him and others so we could live a better life.
We all have gone over the rails, but in love God sent his Son Jesus to keep the law in our place and to rescue us from our slavery to sin.
This weekend, we begin a new series: Top Ten Ways to Live a Better Life. In this series, we are going to see God’s guard rails for us, the Ten Commandments, and our Savior Jesus who gives us the best life ever.
Reaching today’s people with Christ’s victory,
THIS WEEKEND – TOP TEN
ICYMI – Last weekend, Pastor Bill wrapped up the Foolproof series by explaining why we can have hope, even when it seems foolish. God’s wisdom compels us to devote ourselves completely to His purpose and remain firm in our hope for eternity. God’s wisdom shows us that our gifts are meaningless without love. You can click here to read and watch this message.
Coming Up This Weekend – Pastor Bill will get us started in the new series, Top Ten. In this series, we’ll be exploring the 10 Commandments, which help us understand how to live lives that honor God, ourselves, and others. This week starts with the first commandment, where we’ll learn what it means to worship the one true God. You can join in these services on Sunday at 9:00 & 10:30am at Victory, on our live stream site, or our YouTube channel.
Versiti Blood Drive – Victory of the Lamb is partnering with Versiti to offer a blood drive on Wednesday, March 2 from 12:00-5:00pm.
