Victory News – January 10, 2020

Hi Friends,

Do you ever struggle with comparison? You visit someone’s house and it is beautiful and everything is in order. And then you walk into your house their dishes on the table, the counter top, and a few other places like the kids room, the bathroom and … you feel like a loser.

The devil loves it when we compare ourselves to others because there are two options: we think less of ourselves than we should or we think more of ourselves than we should.

This Monday, we are beginning a very important ministry opportunity: the Biblical Storyline reading plan. The people who enter into this plan together will be reading and studying the entire Bible in one year.  For some people, this will be easy, for some people this will be a difficult challenge, and for some people they are going to think there’s no way they can ever do it.

Here’s my request: pursue God in prayer and in reading the Bible. Whatever that looks like for you, do that. Don’t opt out because it is easier to not have to commit, but don’t get burdened by trying to keep up with someone else.  You do you. We just want to help you establish a habit of reading the Bible.

And whoever you are, know that God is always pursuing you with his goodness and love.

I hope to see you in person or online this weekend at 9:00 or 10:30am.

Sharing Christ’s victory,

Pastor Bill

ICYMI – Last Sunday, Pastor Ben kicked off a new series, Seeing 2020. In this series, we’ll explore the true source of wisdom and learn how we can apply it to our lives. Click here to read or watch last Sunday’s message.

Coming Up This Sunday – This weekend, Pastor Bill continues the series with a message about pursuing wisdom. Using God’s wisdom to guide our decisions doesn’t guarantee smooth sailing for our lives, but it does give us peace as we rely on God’s will for our lives. Join us on Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am at church or online. You can also check out the Spotify playlist for the series here.

December 2019 Leadership Team Minutes – Click here to view Leadership Team meeting minutes for December. Any questions? Email the Leadership Team.

Offering Envelopes – If you regularly give via offering envelopes, your 2020 offering envelopes are waiting for you at church! Stop by the Welcome Area on any Sunday through this weekend. If you don’t find your envelopes and would like some assigned to you, please email Kari, the office manager.

Weather Announcement – As you may know, the Franklin area is under a Winter Storm Warning for the weekend. Victory staff and volunteers plan to be at church regardless of the weather, and we will stream services no matter what. We would love to have you join us for church, but we want you to stay safe! Please join us online at 9:00 or 10:30am if you feel it isn’t safe to come out to church. Watch your email and social media for additional updates.

How to Read the Bible: Digital Resources – We had over 100 people attend Pastor Ben’s How to Read the Bible class this Wednesday! However, because we know how busy you are, and because we want this amazing content available to everyone, the Victory team put together a series of three videos you can watch if you weren’t able to attend the class. Click here to access the YouTube playlist. (NOTE: The final video will be accessible by Sunday.)

Bible Project Year-Long Reading Plan – Create a positive habit in your life. Dig into God’s word daily, and read through the Bible in a year. Pastor Ben and a team of pastors and laypeople will guide you on your journey through the Bible. Join the YouVersion reading plan either on the app or on your own. Access these resources and more at votl.life/bible.

Small Group Leader Training –  To continue to offer small groups at Victory, we’re providing an opportunity for new people to become leaders. If you are passionate about encouraging others in their faith and building a community of believers, prayerfully consider leading a group. Pastor Ben will lead Small Group Leader Training on Wednesday, January 15 from 6:30-8:00pm. Click here to register by Tuesday, January 14. This training is open to new small group leaders, and currently leaders are also encouraged to attend.
