Becoming a Christian and following Jesus is a cross-cultural experience. So many things in the Bible feel foreign, foolish, and even just plain wrong. The greatest conflict between culture and Christianity seems to be around the topic of marriage and sex. This is not a new problem. When Paul started new churches throughout the Roman Empire, he had to teach and explain why God designed sex to be experienced only in a marriage between one man and one woman.
We are going to follow Paul’s lead and learn what God has to say about these challenging topics. At first, Paul’s teaching will feel foreign, foolish, and maybe even wrong in our current culture. You might even be tempted to avoid hearing this message. But I encourage you to come to worship with an open mind and listen without judgment. God Word’s teaches us about marriage and sex, not to shame us or guilt us into obedience, but to set us free to live new and better lives of commitment and love for God and one another.
Reaching today’s people with Christ’s victory,
THIS WEEKEND – FOOLPROOF
ICYMI – Last weekend, Pastor Bill continued the series with a message about our morals. The world tells us that we should be free to do what we want. Paul tells us people should “come as they are” to the Christian church, but Jesus doesn’t want them to stay as they are. You can click here to read and watch this message.
Coming Up This Weekend – Pastor Ben addresses the issue of marriage. Paul says that our decision to marry is about how and where we want to serve God. You can join in these services on Sunday at 9:00 & 10:30am at Victory, on our live stream site, or our YouTube channel.
Victory Swag – Through January 23, you can order Victory swag through New Era graphics. We have shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and a blanket available for purchase. New Era Graphics will deliver orders in mid-February. Click here to view options and place your order.
Victory University: The Challenge of the Gospels – The Gospels all tell the story of Jesus’ earthly ministry, death, and resurrection. But they are written by four different people, in four different styles. In this Victory University course, Pastor Ben will help us understand how the Gospels fit together to tell the story of our Savior and our salvation. The course is on Wednesday nights in February at 6:30pm each night. Click here to learn more and register.
