My family and I took a vote on who makes the best French fries. One family member incorrectly said, “Arby’s curly fries are the best.” Good answer, but wrong. Another misguided answer was Chick-fil-A. I voted for the one that is correct and has always been correct – at least to me: McDonalds.
We all have preferences. The problem becomes when we try to make our preferences what everybody must do or agree with. Preferences are not about moral issues. Preferences are about things that we can choose from without sinning. This is also called “adiaphora.”
Adiaphora are things that are neither commanded nor forbidden in Scripture. With things that are adiaphora there is a lot of freedom to choose. This weekend as we continue our series Foolproof, we’re studying 1 Corinthians 8 and learning how to use our freedom and rights in a God-pleasing way.
Reaching today’s people with Christ’s victory,
THIS WEEKEND – FOOLPROOF
ICYMI – Last weekend, Pastor Ben addressed the issue of marriage. Paul says that our decision to marry is about how and where we want to serve God. You can click here to read and watch this message.
Coming Up This Weekend – Pastor Bill continues the series with a message about our choices. Paul says that we need to think about how our decisions affect others, especially fellow Christians. God’s wisdom calls to use our freedom in Christ to serve and love others. You can join in these services on Sunday at 9:00 & 10:30am at Victory, on our live stream site, or our YouTube channel.
Victory Swag – Through THIS SUNDAY, January 23, you can order Victory swag through New Era graphics. We have shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and a blanket available for purchase. New Era Graphics will deliver orders in mid-February. Click here to view options and place your order.
Victory University: The Challenge of the Gospels – The Gospels all tell the story of Jesus’ earthly ministry, death, and resurrection. But they are written by four different people, in four different styles. In this Victory University course, Pastor Ben will help us understand how the Gospels fit together to tell the story of our Savior and our salvation. The course is on Wednesday nights in February at 6:30pm each night. Click here to learn more and register.
