Victory News – January 25, 2019

Dear Friends,

Song lyrics. Stats. Things other people did to us. We remember a lot of things. Sometimes we just go on auto-pilot because we know how to do something or how to get somewhere.

Growing up, we had this assignment in Confirmation class called memory work. Our students still have it today. I remember giving the Christmas assignment to a Confirmation class years ago: learn Luke 2:1-20 … 20 verses. One of the students, who was bright but lazy, balked at the assignment. He went home and told his mom about the assignment. You know what she did? She recited Luke 2:1-20 from memory from her Confirmation days.

I want to encourage you to Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly (Colossians 3:16). And one of the ways to do that is to memorize God’s Word. I’m sure it will come in handy and bolster you in good days and bad, because God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).

I invite you to worship this Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am in person or online.

Stay warm and blessed!

Pastor Bill

ICYMI – Last week, Pastor Bill continued the Living Forward series with a message about serving others. In a world where people are treated as commodities or as opponents, we will dignify all people as image bearers of God. Click here to view and read last Sunday’s message.

Coming Up This Sunday –  This Sunday, we welcome Pastor Bob Johannes, a new member of the Victory community, who will share a message about representing Christ.  Join us on Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am at church or online.

Your next opportunity to get involved in Foundations is coming up in a 2-day format on Saturday, Feb. 9 and 16 from 8:30am-12:00pm each day. Click here to register for the course.

Happy Hands and Heads – Scott and Kerry Nelson, members of our Victory community, are sponsoring “Happy Hand and Heads”, a hat and mitten drive for children ages 5-12. From now through the end of February, please bring new hats and mittens to church.  Please place them in the donation box in the Welcome area. Scott and Kerry will donate these items to local schools to give to children in need of winter clothing items. For more information, go to the Happy Hands and Heads card, or contact Scott and Kerry.

Coast Guard Door Offering – Last weekend, we collected a door offering to support members of the Coast Guard, who are currently working without pay due to the government shut-down. Because of your generosity, we collected over $450 which will go to support these hard-working people who keep our waters safe. Thank you!
