Last week, I watched a spiritually satisfying and theologically deep movie… Disney’s Aladdin (2019).
There is this great scene where the Genie explains to Aladdin how the wishes work. The Genie says that most people wish for money or power. Then he adds, “Do me a favor; do not drink from that cup. I promise you, there’s not enough money and power on earth for you to be satisfied.”
Disney gets it. There is not enough money or power or success to satisfy our hungry hearts. So what could satisfy our soul? Only God. Only an infinite God could satisfy our infinite desires, and only a God of perfect love could satisfy our desire to be loved.
So I know there are all sorts of things that you could do Sunday morning. You could sleep in. You could catch up on your Netflix queue. Or you could go out for breakfast. But nothing can satisfy your soul like the presence of God. So I want to invite you, encourage you, and plead with you to delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4).
I hope to see you in person or online this weekend at 9:00 or 10:30am.
