We live in a pluralistic and entitled culture. This kind of culture doesn’t see the wisdom in the word “no.” Instead of “no,” it is “everything goes.” And if we are not careful, this culture will be absorbed by the church and corrupt it.
A New York city pastor tweeted, “If we do not make formation in Christ the priority, then we’re just going to keep on producing Christians that are indistinguishable in their character from many non-Christians.”
Part of following Christ is taking up our cross and following him. And part of taking up our cross and following him is telling our sinful nature, “No, you can’t do that.”
This weekend we are going to look at the wisdom and love of saying “no” to sin.
Reaching today’s people with Christ’s victory,
THIS WEEKEND – FOOLPROOF
ICYMI – Last weekend, Pastor Ben kicked off the series with a message about what it means to be a follower of Jesus. At first, choosing a leader who died seems like foolishness, but it is really the wisdom and power of God to change lives for eternity. You can click here to read and watch this message. And, you can still read and watch services from Christmas at Victory and December 26.
Coming Up This Weekend – Pastor Bill continues the series with a message about our morals. The world tells us that we should be free to do what we want. Paul tells us people should “come as they are” to the Christian church, but Jesus doesn’t want them to stay as they are. You can join in these services on Sunday at 9:00 & 10:30am at Victory, on our live stream site, or our YouTube channel.
Christmas Decor Removal – We need YOUR help to take down Christmas decor at the Ministry Center. If you have time this Saturday, January 8 starting at 10am, please come on over to help. Thank you to Andrea S. for coordinating our Christmas decor!
Year-Long Bible Reading Plan – Victory’s year-long Bible reading plan kicked off on Monday, January 3. But it’s not too late to join in! You can join in the plan by clicking here.
New Group for Women – Women of all ages are invited to join in a study of the book Jesus & Women by Kristi McLelland, a seven-week opportunity held at the Ministry Center, starting January 11. Participation in this group is $10 to cover the cost of books. To learn more and register, click here.
COVID Reminders – As the omicron variant spreads across Wisconsin, we remind you to consider the health and safety of staff, volunteers, and attendees for worship as you determine how you would like to worship at Victory. If you or a family member are feeling unwell or have COVID or influenza, please worship at home. We encourage you to reference the most recent CDC Update on Quarantine and Isolation if you are unsure where you should choose to worship.
Christmas at Victory – We are excited to announce that we had the opportunity to share the Gospel with over 900 people at our Christmas at Victory services on December 23-25. Many new families registered to attend Christmas worship and have started getting connected at Victory. Thank you for inviting people through personal invitations and on social media!
