PASTOR’S MESSAGE

Dear Friends,

Are you a list maker? The famous Benjamin Franklin loved to make lists. One of his lists was thirteen virtues that he tried to live by every day. He said that he was making it his goal to reach moral perfection. On his list were things like temperance, frugality, and justice.

You can guess what happened. Each day his spiritual scorecard was filled with marks.

Not even the great inventor, philosopher, and government leader was able to overcome his character flaws.

That tells us something. Even the best of us can’t reach moral perfection. Instead, we carry a load of guilt around our shoulders.

And that’s why we really come to church. I know we like to say, “I come because I like the music” or “I like the atmosphere” or “I like Victory kids” or “I like the Victory Cafe”. But the real reason is we are desperate for good news. We want to be ok with ourselves. We want to get rid of this guilt that is holding us back.

So here’s the good news. There is a promise in the Bible that takes the burden off our backs. The writer, Paul, says in his letter to the Romans, “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus!” (Romans 8:1) God looks at you as if you have been morally perfect as if you have fulfilled God’s laws.

Not only that, Paul says that we have been given the Holy Spirit so that we can begin to live a new life. We don’t have to keep doing the dumb things we did yesterday.

There is a lot more to say about this promise. I will be fleshing out what this means for our day to day life in this Sunday’s sermon.  Join us for worship this Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am in person or online.

Sharing Christ’s love and victory,

Pastor Ben

CURRENT SERIES – Promises, Promises

ICYMI – Last Sunday, Pastor Bill kicked off our new series with a message about God’s promises about prayer. We can rest in God’s promise that he hears our every prayer, whether spoken or unspoken. Click here to view or read last Sunday’s message.

Coming Up This Sunday – This weekend, Pastor Ben will share about another promise of God. Through Jesus, God promises to never condemn us or forsake us. Resting in this promise helps take away our guilt and fix our eyes on the miracle and gift of God’s grace. Join us on Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am at church or online.
