When I was about seven years old, I made a costly mistake when I played golf between our house and our neighbor’s house. Sounds kind of silly, doesn’t it? It gets better though. Because instead of using a golf club I was using a baseball bat.
I teed the ball up and swung away! And the ball went right through our neighbor’s window.
That was costly. In fact, the cost was more than I could pay. My dad understood that there was no way that I was going to be able to pay for it. The debt was fair, yes, but unrealistic.
My father didn’t sever our relationship. Nor did he rant or rave or demand repayment. He did what only he could do: he asked me to not to do that again and paid to have the window replaced.
God sees that our sin debt is something we could never pay. So, he opted for forgiveness, grace, and mercy at the exorbitant expense of the life of his Son: But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).
This is the good news of Christianity. Everybody is welcome. And everybody gets in the same way: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him (John 3:16-17 ).
I’m looking forward to worshiping our great and gracious God with you this weekend!
I invite you to join and participate online for worship this Saturday at 5:00pm or Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am.
Sharing Christ’s victory,
Current Series – Who Told You THat?
ICYMI – Last weekend, Pastor Ben continues the series by exploring what makes Christianity different from other religions. Most religions give their followers a type of ladder, a system of rules to live by to “climb up to God”. But Christianity presents a story about God working through his people in order that He might come down to us in Jesus. Click here to read or watch this message.
Coming Up This Weekend – Pastor Bill continues the series with an exploration of the belief that people are basically good. We know deep down that we ourselves are not “basically good”. That’s why we need Jesus, not only to rescue us from ourselves, but also to give us new hearts. Join us on Saturday at 5:00pm or Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am. You can join in for all of these services online.
Mobilize MKE – Through May 9, Victory will be one of the food collection sites for Mobilize MKE.
