Have you noticed that moms are real people? What I mean is, moms not only love, provide, protect, and sacrifice; they also fail, struggle, doubt, get tired, sin, and need a Savior. Thankfully, God has provided a Savior for moms and for the rest of us too!
I am blessed to have a whole bunch of “mom memories.” And one of those memories is my mom having home devotions with me as a kid. She still does this and so do I. ?
One day, my mom will be in heaven. She will be in heaven, not because she had home devotions (although that is great and I encourage you to do this), not because she was perfect, but because Jesus was perfect in her place.
One of my “mom memories” is her leaving church in tears after a Mother’s Day sermon. For whatever reason she didn’t feel she met the standards of the women of noble character in Proverbs 31. Friends, none of us can meet these expectations on our own. But through Jesus we are forgiven, empowered, and dearly loved.
This Mother’s Day and always, I pray that we will all just be real – being real about our sin and real about our Savior.
Current Series – Relationships: Some Assembly Required
ICYMI – Click HERE to view last week’s sermon, in which Pastor Bill wrapped up the Act II sermon series with a message on favorites. The good news (or bad news) is that God doesn’t play favorites. We could never be good enough on our own for Heaven, but Jesus died for our sins so we can look forward to eternity. And because of that, we are all united in Christ.
Coming Up This Sunday (Mother’s Day) – Join us this Sunday at 8:30 or 10:15 in person or ONLINE as Pastor Bill kicks off our new sermon series with a message about our relationship with God. We can (and should) work to build and strengthen our relationship with God, but thankfully God has already formed the foundation of the relationship for us. Whether you are a mom or not, there will be something for you at these special Mother’s Day services. Snap a picture at one of the photo booths and receive a gift to honor moms. Victory Kids will also be singing at both services. View the EVENT PAGE for more information, and check out the Victory Kids videos on Facebook.
Parsonage Work Day – Thank you to all of the dedicated volunteers who have been working on the parsonage at 7707 W. Plainsview Ave. in Franklin. We are nearing the ending phases of work and would like to get everything completed. Some remaining jobs include painting, staining, making touch-ups, doing yard work and taking materials to the dump. Therefore, if you are able to help with these jobs, please join us at the parsonage next Saturday, May 19 at any time between 9 am and 12 pm. Thank you in advance for your work!
Soccer Camp – Soccer Camp is the biggest outreach event of the year, and you have the opportunity to be a part of it! We are currently recruiting coaches to lead teams and hang out with some great kids during Soccer Camp (June 25-28). If you are looking for a way to get involved, click HERE to register for coaching.
Tuition Assistance Program – The Tuition Assistance Program provides assistance to those youth of our congregation pursuing a Lutheran-based education. In addition, the program provides an opportunity for our congregation to show their encouragement and support for a Lutheran-based education. If you have interest in donating to the Tuition Assistance Program, there are many ways you can do so. You can give ONLINE, mail in your donation, or leave it in the offering plate on Sundays with “Tuition Assistance” in the memo.
Call Update – Please continue to pray for Pastor Jim Buske and his family as Pastor Jim deliberates his call to be our associate pastor. Pastor Jim currently serves at the Lighthouse Youth Center in Milwaukee.
LeMarr Family Car Wash – Thank you to all who volunteered, baked, and prayed for last Sunday’s Car Wash. We washed over 50 cars and sold dozens of baked goods. In total, we raised right at $1,700 for the LeMarr family. They will use this to support Kolton and their other children with ongoing medical needs.
Starbucks Gift Card – If you got to this part of the blog, congratulations! Click HERE for an opportunity to win a $5 Starbucks gift card. Please respond by next Friday, 5/18, to be eligible.
#becauseofJesus – Here is another story of how one family who attended our Thanksgiving service used their #becauseofJesus gift to bless those around them: We were inspired to “dollar match” the money we were given by buying some pocket Bibles to easily hand out, along with bottles of water and some cash, to people in need that we meet on our daily commutes. Why? #becauseOfJesus And because our God is an open-handed, generous God. “You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.” (2 Corinthians 9:11)
