Victory News – May 15, 2020

Hi Friends,

Two months into the pandemic, with breaking news and conflicted news, with loss of life and loss of jobs, and with differing opinions, anxiety is running high in the lives of many people.

I ran across this chart last week on Christian Family Solution’s Facebook page. I thought I was handling everything well and then I saw this chart. How many of the descriptions in the chart apply to you?

I’m glad this chart made me aware of where I’m at, because I don’t want a life filled with anxiety. I want a life filled with the love of God. Don’t get me wrong, God absolutely always loves us, but sometimes we let our circumstances cloud our opinion of God’s love for us.

1 Peter 5:7 says, Cast all your anxiety (mood swings, over-scheduling, sleepiness or insomnia, physical pain, overindulgence, avoidance, it’s more than just a worry, inability to focus, and obsessive behaviors) on him because he cares for you.

Wow, that is load off my back, my mind, and my heart! I invite you to join and participate online for worship this Saturday at 5:00pm or Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am.

Sharing Christ’s victory,

Pastor Bill

Current Series – Who Told You THat?

ICYMI – Last weekend, Pastor Ben helped us explore what the Bible says about women’s rights and roles. We also celebrated Mother’s Day with a reading and video.  Click here to read or watch this message, and view the Mother’s Day video here.

Coming Up This Weekend –  This weekend, Pastor Bill explores the misconception that God can’t be loving because He allows suffering. He then points us to goal of God’s story, a renewed world with renewed people, where he will wipe away every tear from all our faces. Join us on Saturday at 5:00pm or Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am. You can join in for all of these services online. Also, we will recognize and celebrate our confirmands this weekend with a video of each of them sharing their faith in Jesus.

Versiti Blood Drive – Victory is partnering with Versiti to serve our community! We’ll host a blood drive on Wednesday, May 20 from 3:00-7:00pm. In order to maintain social distancing and ensure safety, we’ll be adjusting our set-up from other drives and we will not be able to provide child care during the drive. To sign up to donate, click here. Thank you for saving a life!

Online Bible Studies – Pastor Bill and Pastor Ben are offering online Bible studies to help you grow in your faith during this challenging time. Pastor Bill is leading a study called “Joining Jesus on Mission” on Tuesday evenings, and Pastor Ben has a study to dive deeper into sermon topics on Wednesday mornings. To learn more about these studies and get involved, go to votl.life/online-bible-studies.

Church Reopening Plan –  Although the Safer At Home Order was overturned, we are not going to meet for worship this weekend. We want to ensure that in-person worship and other activities are offered in a safe, hospitable way. We appreciate your patience as we prepare for you to join us for church! Next week, we will communicate this plan to our congregation so you know what to expect in the upcoming weeks.

Victory’s Hero of the Week – We’re recognizing heroes in our community every Friday during the month of May with a social media post and a gift card to a local restaurant. To help us with this, we encourage you to nominate a hero! You can click here to nominate someone in the community who has made a difference in your life and the lives of others.

This Week’s Bible Reading – This week in the Biblical Storyline Plan, we read 2 Kings 20-25 and Isaiah 1-20. Supporting videos for this week included Exile, Overview of Isaiah Part 1, Justice, and The Prophets. Learn more about this reading plan and get involved at votl.life/bible.
