When you read through the Gospel accounts you see Jesus interacting and mixing with all kinds of people. Is there an account or type of account that stands out to you?
Here are some of the accounts of faith that stand out to me:
- The woman who was healed after twelve years of bleeding (Matthew 9),
- Martha confessing that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God who is to come into the world (John 11),
- Mary anointing Jesus’ feet with oil – remember it was about a year’s worth of salary (John 12),
- Jesus raising Jairus’ daughter (Mark 5),
- Jesus appearing to the women (Luke 24).
Do you see the two common themes of each of the accounts – Jesus and a woman or group of women? There is something beautiful, convicting, countercultural, and transformative about Jesus’ interaction with women.
Some have left the Christian Church because they have witnessed Christians treating men and women differently. While the Bible makes it clear that men and women are different, the elevation of one gender over another is not Scriptural. This weekend, we will continue our series, Before You Lose Your Faith. And we will consider one of my all-time favorite Biblical accounts – Jesus and the Samaritan woman – and see that Jesus is good for men and women.
Hope to see you for worship this Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am, in person or online. Feel free to invite a family member or friend to join you. You can worship at Victory, on our live stream site, or on our YouTube channel.
Reaching today’s people with Christ’s victory,
CURRENT SERIES – BEFORE YOU LOSE YOUR FAITH
ICYMI – Last weekend, Pastor Ben continued the series with a message about power and caring for the oppressed. When we faithfully follow Jesus’ words, the Christian church becomes a group that supports children, the poor, and the oppressed. You can click here to read and watch this message.
Coming Up This Weekend – Pastor Bill addresses concerns about how the Christian church views genders. Jesus challenged the inequality of his day and ours as he met with the Samaritan woman at the well. If we follow Jesus’ words and example, the Christian Church will be good for both men and women. Join us for worship on Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am at Victory on our live stream site or our YouTube channel.
Refugee Support Drive – Fort McCoy is currently housing over 12,000 refugees from Afghanistan, many of whom brought nothing but the clothing on their backs. We have the opportunity to partner with Team Rubicon to share the love of Jesus with this group of people. From November 7-21, you can donate new clothing and other items to the refugees at Fort McCoy. To find the Amazon Wish List for donations and to learn how you can get involved, go to votl.life/refugee.
