God is an extravagant giver.
Consider what Martin Luther said about God’s generosity: “I believe that God made me and every creature and that he gave me my body and soul, eyes, ears and all my members, my mind and all my abilities. And I believe that God still preserves me by richly and daily providing clothing and shoes, food and drink, house and home, spouse and children, property and all I own, and all that I need to keep my body and life, and by defending me against all danger and guarding and protecting me from all evil. All this God does because he is my good and merciful Father in heaven and not because I have earned or deserved it.”
Wow – that is generosity. And that doesn’t even include the greatest gift of all. Through his son, Jesus Christ:
- God gives abundantly: Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights (James 1:17).
- He gives lovingly: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16)
- He gives sacrificially: For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45)
This weekend as we continue our Path to Victory series, we will look at “Give”, another one of the spiritual practices of the early Christians. We will find the “secret” of excelling in generosity. It is truly a life-changer!
I look forward to worshiping with you this weekend in person or online this Saturday at 5:00pm or Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am.
Sharing Christ’s victory,
