Recently, a number of well-known Christian leaders have publicly renounced their faith. Some of these include:
- Joshua Harris, the best-selling author of I Kissed Dating Goodbye;
- Marty Sampson, the lead singer of the Christian band Hillsong; and
- Abraham Piper, the son of John Piper, a well-known preacher.
Maybe you don’t recognize some of these “Christian celebrities”, but you probably know someone close to you who has walked away from Christianity. In fact, maybe you are going through your own crisis of faith.
That’s why we are continuing our sermon series Before You Lose Your Faith. We are tackling challenging topics that seem to be leading quite a few people to deconstruct their faith. This Sunday, we will be focusing on the issue of power.
There have been a number of Christian organizations, institutions, and leaders who have used their position of power to control others. And sadly, that has led many to question their faith in Jesus. That is exactly why we need to go back to God’s word and see what Jesus actually taught about power. Jesus told his followers to use their power to serve others. In fact, Jesus didn’t just teach about serving; he lived it. He gave up his place of power and privilege in order to rescue and redeem you and me. Now he calls all Christians to follow his example with the power he gives.
Hope to see you for worship this Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am, in person or online. Feel free to invite a family member or friend to join you. You can worship at Victory, on our live stream site, or on our YouTube channel.
Reaching today’s people with Christ’s victory,
CURRENT SERIES – BEFORE YOU LOSE YOUR FAITH
ICYMI – Last weekend, Pastor Bill kicked off the series with a message about racism. When we follow Jesus’ teachings, the Christian Church can begin to break down the racial barriers we see in our culture to share Jesus’ love with all people. You can click here to read and watch this message.
Coming Up This Weekend – Pastor Ben continues the series with a message about power and caring for the oppressed. When we faithfully follow Jesus’ words, the Christian church becomes a group that supports children, the poor, and the oppressed. Join us for worship on Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am at Victory on our live stream site or our YouTube channel.
Refugee Support Drive – Fort McCoy is currently housing over 12,000 refugees from Afghanistan, many of whom brought nothing but the clothing on their backs. We have the opportunity to partner with Team Rubicon to share the love of Jesus with this group of people. From November 7-21, you can donate new clothing and other items to the refugees at Fort McCoy. To find the Amazon Wish List for donations and to learn how you can get involved, go to votl.life/refugee.
New this Week: Telecoil System – Thanks in part to a generous donation from one of our members, Victory will now have a Telecoil system in place in our worship center. This system is intended to help people who have hearing aids and cochlear implants be able to clearly hear worship services and other presentations through their assistive listening devices. We will also have stand-alone devices for people to use if needed.
