While on vacation this past summer, Jacky and I went to a fast food restaurant. We ordered our meals and we both opted for water. While I was paying the bill at the counter, Jacky went to the newer Coke Freestyle soda machine. The machine poured her water and she found our seats.
I took my cup and went to the soda machine. When I saw a button for lemon water, thought, “Wow, that’s cool. I get a lemon in my water.” I pushed the button and the machine poured my lemon water. Stoked up about my lemon water, I joined my wife at the table.
And then I tasted it. It was lemonade, not lemons in water. I didn’t pay for lemonade. I ordered a free water.
My heart sank. I didn’t want to buy a drink; I wanted free water. And my mind said, “No one is going to know.” Quickly following, I thought, “That’s not true. Jacky knows. I know. God knows.” And every time I looked out at our Victory community, I would be thinking about this horrible secret that I had.
So, I go up and tell the worker what happened as I grab my wallet out to pay for it. The manger overheard and said, “It’s okay. Don’t worry about it.” And she wouldn’t take any money. I wish I could say I always do the right thing like I did in this situation. I haven’t always been the hero when it comes to integrity. How about you?
This Sunday we start a new series called Start With Jesus. We are going to see that Jesus is the integrity that we all have been looking for and needing.
Join us for worship this Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am in person or online.
Sharing Christ’s love and victory,
CURRENT SERIES – START WITH JESUS
ICYMI – Last Sunday, Pastor Ben wrapped up our Wanted series with a message about getting our hearts straight. As we go out into the world on mission, even as we share Jesus with the world, God continues to work on our hearts to help us truly understand his love and compassion for us. Click here to read or watch last Sunday’s message.
Coming Up This Sunday – This weekend, Pastor Bill kicks off our new series, Start with Jesus, with a message about integrity. Rather than worrying about winning the approval of the crowds and the priests, Jesus spoke with authenticity about his mission to save those dead in their sins – all of us. How would our lives be different if we lived lives of integrity rather than popularity? Join us on Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am at church or online.
Children’s Gift and Blessing – In honor of the new school year and our new series, Start with Jesus, we’ll be offering a blessing and a gift for the children at Victory. Whether your children attend Victory Kids or join you in worship, they will receive a blessing near the end of each service and a gift to put on their back packs as a reminder of this blessing. Join us at 9:00 or 10:30am this weekend for your child to participate.
