John Chrysostom was a leader in the early Christian church. He was known for his preaching, public speaking, and writing. His straightforward speaking was not always well received.
Reportedly he angered the Emperor Arcadius. Arcadius wanted to punish Chrysostom, so he brought in his counselors. One said, “Confiscate his property.” But one responded, “that will only hurt the poor to whom he gives all that he has.” Another said, “throw him in prison.” Someone responded, “no, he will only glory in his chains.” Finally, one of the counselors said, “the only thing he is afraid of is sin. We need to get him to sin.”
Can it be said of us, he/she is afraid to sin?
This weekend we will continue our Origin series and look at the Origin of Rebellion and Redemption.
You’re invited to join us for worship this Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am. You can worship at Victory, on our live stream site, or on our YouTube channel.
Sharing Christ’s Victory,
CURRENT SERIES: Origins
ICYMI: Pastor Ben continued the series with a lesson in Genesis 2 about the origin of relationships. God shows us how that first family came to be when he designed Adam and Eve to be married to one another. We were not made to be alone, we are social creatures. Honor marriage as the beautiful gift it is intended to be. To read and watch the message, click here.
Coming Up This Weekend: Pastor Bill continues the series with a lesson in Genesis 3 about the origin of our rebellion. God designed us to live for him. But instead of loving God above all things, we want to be in charge. We want to be our own gods. Where does that selfish impulse come from? Genesis 3 tells the story of the origin of our rebellion from God and what God promised to do to repair our relationship. You can join in on Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30am at Victory, on our live stream site, or our YouTube channel.
