What the World Needs Now

What the World Needs Now

Dear friends,

Just over three weeks to Christmas! Yay God!

What is your favorite Christmas carol or song? My favorite Christmas song changes all the time. I like “Noel,” by Lauren Daigle. But today, and it might change by tomorrow, my favorite is: “Hark! The Herald Angels Sings,” by Carrie Underwood.

I will share a not so well kept secret about myself. I love Christmas music. I’m not to worried about whether it is Thanksgiving or even November yet, any month for me is ok. I love to listen to songs about our Savior coming into the world. The mystery, the majesty, the love of God, to take on human flesh to be our Savior, intrigues, captivates and comforts me. These songs lead me to worship:

Hail the heav’n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings
Ris’n with healing in His wings
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark! The herald angels sing
“Glory to the newborn King!”

ICYMI here is our message from this past weekend: Hope for the Ugly Christmas Sweater Wearers!

The Bethlehem Market Place is ready to go for tomorrow’s Christmas For Kids (see below). This weekend Pastor Ben is going to help us get prepared for Christmas as he brings us an amazing message of comfort, as we continue our message series, “What the World Needs Now.”

Christmas For Kids – Saturday Dec 9, 11:30am-3pm. Drop your kids off to experience the Bethlehem Marketplace while you catch up on your holiday to-do list. Please let your friends know too! This free and fun event is open to kids ages 3-11. Check-in begins at 11:00am so we are ready to visit Bethlehem at 11:30! Kids are invited to join us the next day at 10:15am to sing their song during the service. Go to the website to register kids. If you have any questions, please contact Cassy, the Christmas for Kids Director. And share the Facebook event online with your unchurched friends. Let them know their kids are welcome! Heads up, there are only a few spots left so hurry up and register if you haven’t!

Last Week for Christmas Toy Outreach – Help provide toys for needy children in the Milwaukee area. New, wrapped toys are to be dropped off in designated bins in the lobby by 10:15 am on Dec. 10. There is still time to get involved. We truly appreciate your generosity in making a child feel special.

Operation Jesus Cares – Dec 19 Once again we are partnering with Christ St. Peters School in Milwaukee for assembly and delivery of care packages. This is our opportunity to have a positive impact on a struggling community. You can help provide items for the care packages by donating online. Volunteers are needed on Dec 19 at the school from 8am-12:30pm. To volunteer, sign-up online. Visit the website for more information.

Communion – This Sunday we will be offering communion during the first the service. Communion will also be offered in the month of December during our Christmas Day service and also during both of our Sunday worship services on New  Year’s Eve.

Poinsettia Plants – If you would like to purchase a poinsettia plant to help make the altar area beautiful for Christmas, please sign-up by Dec 12. For more information and to sign-up, visit our needs list.

Christmas at Victory of the Lamb – on Sunday, Christmas Eve, we will have two identical services: 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. The 9:00 service will feature our coffee and breakfast bar with kids programming available. The 4:00 service will have Christmas Cookies and a Hot Cocoa Bar.  On Christmas Day we will have just one service at 9 am with communion.

Christmas Invitations – Christmas is a super amazing time to invite family, friends, neighbors etc to worship. Study after study indicate that people are willing to come but don’t know if they are welcome. So remove their doubt and invite them to worship Jesus with us!

Leadership Team Update – Check out the November Leadership Team meeting minutes.

More Than Bricks – God has richly blessed our More Than Bricks Campaign. Thank you for your generosity. There is still time to contribute and watch God multiply his blessings here and far. Check out the latest report and an opportunity to meet a challenge!

Pastor Ben’s Call – Keep Pastor Ben and his family, Victory of the Lamb and Divine Savior in your prayers as Pastor Ben prays over where God is leading him to serve.

Hiring for Ministry Positions at Victory – In order to better support our pastors and ministry leaders in our core mission of reaching unchurched people, the Leadership Team has approved two part-time positions — Office Manager and Communications Coordinator. The Office Manager will provide administrative support. The Communications Coordinator will develop and implement effective marketing/communications strategies for both our church and community audiences.

  1. Resumes should be submitted to Jeff Guenther at jeff@rentwithdiamond.com by December 31, 2017.  Those interviewing for the communications position and have a portfolio of work, please submit that as well.
  2. Interviews will begin early in January, 2018 so that a qualified candidate might be chosen by January 31st.
  3. If there is a candidate that is interested and has the skill set to perform both positions, we would entertain that possibility.
  4. If there is a candidate that would like to volunteer their time and meets the criteria of either of these positions, then we would love to talk with you.

Any questions regarding these positions can be directed to Jeff Guenther at jeff@rentwithdiamond.com or 414-313-0804.

Concert Service – Centennial Lutheran Church invites you to a concert service of original music and favorite Advent songs with recording artist Mike Westendorf.
